McCarthy sideboard

It’s always a delightful task to start a new project and with a fairly open brief the enjoyment becomes exponential.

We were approached by a new client during the Christmas show at RHS Wisley and asked to visit their home to see a space they had earmarked for something to match with their existing antique French walnut dining table and dresser.

We spent a while at the drawing board to design a range of options based on the brief and after a couple of rounds of feedback between ourselves and the client the final design was settled on.

The design takes it’s cue from Neoclassical furniture and great British makers like George Hepplewhite. The delicate tapered feet flow into the elegant contours of the underframe. These curves are magnified in the sweeping inlaid burr walnut panels that form the inset handles of the doors and drawers. Generously proportioned dovetailed drawers on hidden soft-close runners at the top blend with the layered doors below. Cupboard space with adjustable shelving makes the sideboard functional and versatile.
