What a brilliant time had by all at 2015's RHS Wisley Christmas craft fair with Craft in Focus!

It was a great way to round up a year of wonderful events organised by Craft in Focus with the busiest one yet. We will need to make sure that we take more stock for next years show.

Ebony Valentine chair

We had the pleasure of working on a really special piece of furniture for a client with a taste for something exotic.

This valentines dining chair is made from solid Gabon ebony: a black hardwood that is dense enough to sink in water. It is finely-textured and has a very smooth finish when polished, making it valuable as an ornamental wood. To have something of this size in solid ebony is quite rare and special.

Although it was quite a tricky material to work with, we really enjoyed making this amazing one off piece of furniture.

The Ebony was supplied by a company called Exotic Hardwoods in Derbyshire and was sourced sustainably with full certification. www.exotichardwoodsukltd.com

3d map display coffee table

We designed and made this coffee table for a client who had commissioned a 3d map of America to be made for his daughters wedding present.

The coffee table is constructed from oak with a glass table top and a shelf underneath for storage. We added finger joint details to the sides and finished using a liming solution to give the wood a lighter tint.

Wireless phone charger

The Griffin + Sinclair wireless phone charger has been selected to be in the Not on The High street Christmas catalogue.

It's the perfect gift for the person who has everything! It's an easy way to charge your phone and to keep your surfaces clutter free. Have it on your bedside table and you can just chuck your change, keys or cufflinks in to the tray. Or have it on your desk at work to keep your pens, business cards and sunnies in one place and keep your phone charged.

We hand make each one in our rural Nottinghamshire workshop. The wireless charger is neatly hidden inside the wooden block, so you simply lay your compatible smartphone on the flat surface and let it charge wire-free!

PLEASE NOTE: The charger works on the QI wireless system. Many phones such as Samsung Galaxy S6, Nokia Lumia 735, Google Nexus 4 and more have Qi integrated. You can get wireless cases for Apple products and other phones too.

You can choose from the small charger that measures 19cm wide with a small tray perfect for keys and loose change. Or you can have the large version that measures 37cm wide and is big enough to put pens, sunnies and your wallet or purse in.

made from:
Each one is created using a mix of sustainably sourced solid woods such as ash, oak, walnut and cherry. We hand select a blend of woods that look good together and as such each one is different depending on the types of wood we have in stock.

You can plug it in to the supplied wall plug or use the cord to go straight into a USB port. If you have a phone that does not support wireless charging you can buy wireless charging phone cases online.

Hatton console table

We really love how our latest console tables turned out. Using the design of our Hatton table and adding solid walnut detailing and a limed finish to match the floor of the clients house gives a totally different feel to the table.

We added a small drawer with a push release mechanism to it to store small items.

It was a glorious weekend with wonderful sunshine and we are looking forward to next years event.

Sherwood bedroom furniture

We had the pleasure of designing and making all of the fitted cabinets and book shelf for a bedroom in a wonderful house in Henley-on-Thames.

The cabinets are made from oak with ash panels. The corner cabinets have been vacuum bent into curves to give an organic feel to the cabinets and they have been lime finished to soften the colour.

Behind each panel is a push release draw for maximum storage and above the bed, mirroring the cabinets is a curved oak book shelf.

Best of Britannia

Best of Britannia has moved to the fabulous Nicholls & Clarke building in Shoreditch.

Our space was situated in one of the main urban warehouse areas which used to be a tile storage area. Right above our stand was a collage of old rock stars pictures and news reports in a huge collage all over the wall. It was obviously somebodies office area, somebody who was really into Rock and Roll!

Once again there were lots of amazing British brands at the show. Keep an eye out for Buy British day on 3rd Oct 2015 and support our fellow Brits.

Notts open studios

Open Studios weekend 29th - 31st May 2015
Lee Sinclair Furniture and guest exhibitor Adrian Stapleton of Trinity
Forge will be taking part in the 2015 Notts Open Studios.

In the heart of the beautiful Nottinghamshire countryside, a bespoke furniture maker and a blacksmith who usually work behind closed doors will be exhibiting and demonstrating their work to the public.

Open Studios provide a rare opportunity for the public to gain free insight into techniques used in these highly skilled crafts. There will be tours around the workshop, showroom and live demonstrations in traditional woodworking techniques. There will also be a pop up forge in the gardens and refreshments. The Lee Sinclair Furniture workshop is situated in Laneham, a tranquil village on the river Trent. There is plenty to do and see including the Bees Knees Brewery tour, Linda’s handmade card shop, Sundown adventure land and not far away is the market town of Retford where the Courtyard galleries will be featuring three more Open Studios artists.

Working with materials regarded as everyday and industrial, Artist & Craftsman Blacksmith Adrian Stapleton strives to create pieces which are simple in design, exquisite in their craftsmanship and functional – a delight to use or look at everyday.

Over 200 artists & craft makers will take part in open studios and related events between 2 May & 14 June. There will also be an accompanying exhibition, ‘Bringing Artists into View’ at the Rufford Craft Centre gallery space from 3 May to 7 June.

Kella bedroom furniture

We recently finished a large bedroom project which consisted of:
A fitted wardrobe which curves round the bedroom and offers a huge amount of storage space.
A matching two step foot stool to reach up into the wardrobes
And an extending headboard with matching curved bedside tables.

Our client has a wonderful collection of ercol furniture and a passion for great design. She approached us with an interesting brief to create a fitted wardrobe that curved around the corner of her room and fitted into the chimney breast.

The design we came up allows for maximum storage including a very large space to display her shoes, tall and short hanging rail space, drawers, top boxes for linen and a full length mirror.

More +

We designed and handmade a bespoke floor to ceiling set of wardrobes that are contemporary whilst complimenting other iconic design items around her house.

We used fiddleback sycamore for the doors as it is a beautifully light and elegant wood. We used a contrasting oak for the border which highlights the curves of the wardrobe. The handles are an ercol inspired design made out of solid walnut which are ergonomically friendly and fit with the curved theme of the wardrobes. more +

The steps are made from solid walnut and the oak legs contrast beautifully against the richness of the wood. The three legs protrude through the top of the walnut adding a striking design element that gives a nod to the classic art-deco styling that the client likes.

The oak was selected as the structural timber for its strength and durability. We chose the walnut as with the softer wood we could achieve a smoother finish which would feel better under bare-feet in the bedroom where this would be used. more+

With the curved wardrobes already installed, the next brief was to create a matching headboard and side tables, with the requirement that the headboard would fit a king-size bed and extend to fit a super-king in the future.

This was not something we had ever been asked to do, but we set about working out a simple but effective system using the main headboard as a frame and oak and sycamore ‘wings’ which could slide in or out to fit the width of the bed.
With the headboard made, we created side tables to match her curved wardrobes, using the same deco-inspired walnut handles and twinning this with the combination of oak fronts, figured sycamore top and walnut plinth.

We are really happy with the end result of this job and have just entered it for the wood arward 2015 so fingers crossed all of our hard work is recognised!

Our client loves her wardrobes, takes great pride in filling them with beautiful clothes and shoes and hopes to order more furniture from us in the next few months.

Ingram desk

Sticking with the theme of curves, We had the pleasure of designing and making this large office desk and cabinet.

Our client wanted to achieve an organic flow in the otherwise very square room. He also liked the idea of working at home whilst being able to look out of the window onto the beautiful scenery beyond.

Underneath the desk is a wire channel with three access holes through the top.

The desk top is made from solid oak and fitted to the wall.

We created a cabinet to house two filing cabinets with pocket doors that fold neatly away thus not interfering with leg room.

Kella fitted wardrobe and foot stool

Over Christmas, when everybody was enjoying the festive break, we kept busy testing out our vacuum bending skills. The results are stunning. This huge floor to ceiling fitted wardrobe has hardly any straight edges on it!

The doors are made from bent figured sycamore with solid oak frames. Our client wanted ample space to store her hats, shoes and handbags so we designed the corner wardrobe exactly for that. We also fitted lights into the wardrobe and lots of hanging space. We used walnut for details like the handles and a plinth around the top and the bottom.

We are now working on the designs for a matching bed and side tables.

More photos of wardrobes in situ and head board with side tables coming soon…

Craft 2015

In January we took part in one of the UK’s biggest trade shows. Craft is a part of Top Drawer held at London’s Olympia with hundreds of exhibitors selling everything from birthday cards to gazebo’s!

The craft section of the show was full of talented, successful artisans and their pieces. It was lovely to meet so many like minded people with a passion for craft.

We exhibited a range of products but the stars of the show were definitely our new Shelfie adjustable shelving system, Convertable eco and Lapp iPad stand

We are very pleased to say that we are now trading all across England in some really beautiful, unique stores for example:
Ludlow castle gallery
Michaelmas house in Market Bosworth
Rhubarb and roses in Winslow
