Pilosa console table

We had the pleasure of designing and making a console for a lovely house in Leverton, Nottinghamshire.

It was a comission by existing customers who keep coming back (just the sort we like!) They wanted it as a Christmas present to each other.

The Pilosa console table is a signature piece of original design by Lee Sinclair Furniture. It encapsulates our passion for original, organic pieces of art that are not only functional but beautiful too.

The top of the table is made from a stunning piece of solid figured sycamore with plenty of character in the grain. As with the majority of our timber, we sourced the sycamore locally from a Lincolnshire saw mill.

We have used the natural tension of the timber to form the leg structure, creating fluidity of form and great strength. For detailing, 3000 year old Bog oak is used where the legs meet the console table top.

Prideaux extending table

We recently had the pleasure of working on a stunning dining table design. Made from solid oak, the Prideaux table extends from a six seater into an eight seater with the leaf stored within the table.

The top is made out of solid european oak. The burr oak leg pedestals are made from cats paw burr oak and are reflected through to the top. The pedestal leg positioning allows maximum leg room around the table. As with all of our bespoke pieces, all of the dimensions of the table were adjusted to the clients requirements.

The Prideaux dining table has a mechanism that when pulled, the two tops move apart. The middle of the table houses an extension leaf which when placed into the gap transforms the six seater dining table into an eight seater dining table.

We added the lovely feature of a long dovetail joint on the cross grain section of the table top.

We also made six Prudom chairs and two Prudom carvers to compliment the design. The chairs are made from solid european oak with 3000 year-old bog oak wedges on the tenon joints to add that little something extra.

Watch presentation box

While we normally turn our skills to furniture, we’re always happy to take on new challenges and one recent commission let us indulge in a spot of box-making.

A watch collector in Northamptonshire had a special birthday coming up, so we were contacted by his wife to create a special case to store his collection in.

We selected a few nice pieces of walnut, utilising a lighter sap wood and offsetting it against darker stripes which created a simple yet stunning design. The hand cut joints on each corner show off the craftsmanship involved and the method of joining the base casts a shadow under the box giving it the illusion of floating. To display his watches we turned a length of ash for them to slide onto.

We fitted the box with polished chrome hinges and clasp to compliment the dark timber and then inlayed a small handle made from 3,000 year old bog oak. See more here

Rufford Abbey - childrens activity units

For our good friends over at Rufford Abbey craft centre, we created something really rather special this month.

Their brief was for 4 units (3 large and 1 small) to act as gallery display cases for exhibits and also as children's activity units.

We designed the cabinets with a display shelf underneath toughened glass for exhibits to be displayed. Each of the four units are on lockable casters so that the curator can move them around the gallery space easily.

To transform the cabinets into work areas, three of the side flaps simply lift and lock into place and inside the drawers is enough storage space for mats, pens, paper etc.

We also supplied Rufford gallery with eight of our Avenir stools and added rails to the bottom of the cabinets so that they can be stored away and transported easily when not being used.

The units are on public display at Rufford Abbey craft centre, Ollerton, Nottinghamshire, NG22 9DF. It is a wonderful day out!

Best of Britannia

Just wanted to share with you our wonderful experience at the Best of Britannia show 2014 in the Farmiloe building in Clerkenwell, London. The show has been sucessfully running for 3 years now with the intension to support British brands and get people to 'buy british'.

Well that suits us very well!

We set up on the Wednesday in the prime position in the gorgeous Farmiloe building, not knowing what to expect the following day.

Everybody was so supportive and nice! by the end of the weekend, we felt like one big happy family.

Although, after 3 days of demonstrating the convertable over and over again (much like this video ) We were both in need of a god bubble bath!

Here are a few photographs form the weekend and a big shout out to Gillies Jones, Jess Collet and Trove.

Best of Britannia was also featured on Friday's The One Show!

We have taken a selfie of our newest design! This beautiful bit of oak has been made into our first Shelfie which we will be displaying at the Best of Britannia exhibition in a couple of weeks.

The simple design works with slot in hooks of various shapes and sizes which mean you can entirely personalise your Shelfie to your needs. The one shown here has been made to show off Dan's bike and hang all the other bits and pieces that go along with it!

Made from solid oak with a smooth sanded and oiled finish, we're working on a few different types of hooks and accessories that will make this modular shelf suitable for all sorts of spaces. Everything from pan racks, utensil hooks and bottle opener for the kitchen to coat hooks, scarf loops and shoe racks for the hallway.

Come and see us at the show in London 2.3.4 October to find out more.

London Design Festival

Its that time of year again when we set out to go and find out what is hot in the design world at the moment. The London Design Festival is an annual event, held to celebrate and promote London as the design capital of the world, and as the gateway to the international creative community - and 2014's Festival did not dissapoint!

With around 250 designers taking part, it is often hard to decide where to start!

We saw SCP on Curtain rd - Three shows from Japan, America and Britain that
celebrate things made as they should be. Welcoming the Ishinomaki Laboratory, Mashiko ceramics, the Shotoku Glass Company and other special objects from Japan. Brooklyn-based designers Fort Standard represent America, while SCP launch A/W14 designs.

The V&A had a brilliant show of interesting design installations - Including the amazing mirror ceiling. Two revolving reflective structures were suspended in the centre of the gallery, provide an ever-changing view.

Around the building was an interesting array of exhibits called 'The wish list'. We were truley amazed by the techniques in making a huge, circular table. The table consisted of approximately 150 layers of solid wood, shaped, sanded and laminated together to produce an entirely solid pedestal table.

100% design also did'nt let us down! - 100% Design is the largest design trade event of its kind in the UK, covering interiors, the workplace, kitchens and bathrooms, emerging talents as well as eco, design and build.

After meeting with some of the exhibitors at the show. We are excited to begin installing new technologies such as wireless chargers into our furniture.

Designjunction - Located in a facinating building and boasting a crosssection of content from product
launches and installations to pop-up shops, bespoke eateries and live flash factories. Another show of inspiring new designers all in an urban setting.

Just a few of our highlights to share with you. We hope you enjoyed your visit to London Design Festival too!!

Synagogue ark

We will be delivering this beautifully handmade ark to a Synagogue in London later today. When in its new home in Buckhurst, the ark will present and protect three holy scrolls. As part of the brief, it had to be movable so we designed a clever system which conceals the castor's.

People are Lapping it up!

The Lapp - iPad stand has been getting lots of great press recently!

Especially from our Blogers...

Kate Baxter, writer of the trendy blog Fabric of my life included it in her August essential article. We agree, the Lapp is perfect for those lazy summer days relaxing, reading and browsing on your tablet!

We also featured on Decor by Designs blog - Seen it, Want it!
'This stand is a great example of functional and beautiful design – I like it!'
Delila - Decor by Design

The tech team over at GadgetFlow chose the Lapp as a 'staff pick', added us to their mailout and included us in their shop!

And not forgetting that you can now buy online through the Griffin + Sinclair website,
shop of interest,
and Amazon

It certainly seems like people are Lapping it up!

Buy British Day press breakfast at the house of commons

We were invited to the Buy British press launch at the house of commons on Tuesday.

As we were there, we couldn't resist a cheeky photograph of our coat stand just outside Big Ben!

The panel consisted of: Wayne Hemingway MBE, Timothy Everest MBE, William Church (MD of Cheaney), Will Butler-Adams (MD of Brompton), Cressida Granger (MD of Mathmos) and a representative from the UKTI.

Some very interesting points were raised and it got us thinking about how important it is to continue making everything by hand here in Nottinghamshire.

We will be exhibiting at the Best of Britannia show on the 2 / 3 / 4 of October 2014 held in the beautiful Farmiloe Building in Clerkenwell.

Fitted bedroom

Late last year we took on the brief to design the furniture for a large bedroom. They needed maximum storage room and wanted to compliment the interesting architecture of their house.

In response to this, we set out designing two full length, full height fitted wardrobes made from ash and walnut. We also designed and made a TV cabinet and a set of drawers with dovetail joints. The units have shelves, hanging rails, top cupboards and even a mirror room hidden inside the main cabinet. We all pulled together, worked hard (often into the night) and completed the job in time for their tight deadline.

We are delighted with how it turned out!
