Merry Christmas-welcome 2013!

We are looking forward to an exciting 2013 with a major expansion of the business. Our new website is being worked on and we will be exhibiting at a number of places throughout England.

We welcome Dan Griffin and my daughter Rosalind Sinclair into the business and look forward to working with them and incorporating their fresh ideas into our established repertoire.

Merry Christmas and role on 2013!

V&A furniture exhibition

We went to the new furniture exhibition at the V&A last Friday. It is worth a visit, especially the display of the latest technology products.

They have a coffee table made on a 3D printer - wow!!! We were really impressed by the endless opportunities and the idea of printing out movable parts lie joints.

The table is made from Nylon and took 7-10 days to print. have a look at the V&A website here:

how it was made

The videos show how the table was printed. There is also a video showing the latest CNC produced chair. I have started saving my pennies. Now, come to think of it... I would rather buy a new hand tool and it is a lot cheaper!

Springhead Brewery Christmas lunch

Getting close to Christmas now and will be off for two weeks! Have arranged firms Christmas party/dinner at the Springhead Brewery in the village so will not have to drive..... We are lucky to have our own village brewery producing really good beer. The food looks good as well.

In the meantime I had better get the lighting ordered for the cabinets. Low voltage so need transformers but have used them before and look really smart.

I am also working on designs for extra bedroom furniture to go with the large wardrobe we made in October. Two bedside cabinets, two chest of drawers, and another slightly smaller wardrobe. I love Autocad, makes life so much easier.

18th December 2012 - First Blog

bespoke furniture maker

Well, at last I have found time to start a blog. I'll try and keep adding news as it happens so that you can follow progress in the workshop. This could be a valuable tool to keep clients up to date on their projects or just for fellow makers to see how I work.

We are making a large counter/display for a jewellery shop in Birmingham's jewellery quarter. It is in Oak and features exposed finger joints in the construction.  I am just off now to fetch the glass for the display area. I'll put some photos up to show progress when I get back.

These all interconnect to form a large "L" shape as shown in my original sketch.
Just realised that I have posted before. Must be getting old! but it was in 2007 so it shouldn't count. Still true though, I cannot believe that it makes sense for timber to go from America to China then carted over here as cheap, cheap furniture! That is 3/4 of the way around the world! Are we all mad?
